Ahhh finally Saturday

Well the beginning of my week was fabulous, however as the week went on it went into a tailspin dive of doom. Thankfully it's Saturday, a nice easy day at work putting books and comics away while blasting the tunes, and then go home and chill out.

I did get to watch an interesting movie this week, Repo the Genetic Opera. It's a gothy rock opera, music ranges from fabulous to jarring, but it has a great tragic plot, and stars Anthony Head (yes yes, Giles from Buffy), and the Sarah Brightman (gods I LOVE her singing voice). Knowing Paris Hilton was in the movie was initially a turn off, however towards the end it's worth watching what happens to her... that's all I will say :P Good flick, love that it incorporates comics in the movie, definitely on my to buy list, I had to grab the soundtrack off itunes since I have had select songs stuck in my head for a few days.

I am not reading anything other then textbooks of late so I can't comment on anything I have been reading, but the book I currently have in my bag if I get a chance to read for pleasure is Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked: Sex, Morality, and the Evolution of a Fairy Tale. I enjoy reading books which analyze fairy tales so this was on the top of my list for a while, will review it a bit once I actually get to the book.

Anyhoo, I did get to finish a scarf I was making this week and I am starting on a hat made of baby alpaca for the husband, he wants nothing fancy just a plain, warm hat and scarf (he did say I could put little tie-fighter emblems on them if I wanted lol). I am also thinking of making myself a few pairs of long gloves with some of the uber yummy yarn I have gotten over the past few weeks.

Okay I do have a little bit of yarn porn. I received a Woolgirl order, I so love how she packages everything ( the cats thank her as well for the ribbon they always try to nab). She through in a sample of handmade soap which smells like honey and almonds, and a little sample of wool wash (which I kinda need right now for a pair of mittens who found their way into some snow sludge the other day).I only ordered one skein of Dashing Dachs sportweight superwash Merino in the Diablo colorway.

I can't wait to see how these will knit up, I was going to make some sock for Wolf, however he claims the colors are still too girly (sigh).I don't know they sure don't look girly to me but oh well. Mine now!

The mailman made me a happy gal when he brought over my etsy order from Beyond Basic Knits this week. Gorgeous pink and brown self-striping sock yarn!

The yarn is very soft and the colors are so pretty, however it would have been nice if I was sent a notice when my order was shipped, but I won't knit pick since I am so happy with the coloring.

And that leaves the yarn I have gotten from The Loopy Ewe. I ordered a skein of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Iris Garden. I seemed to have only one skein at home and i needed two to make a pair of socks. I love the color but I have decided I don't enjoy knitting with the Shepherd Sock at all, it just lacks the softness I am used to with many of the indies I have come across.

Some excellent baby alpaca from Alpaca with a Twist to make my husband a scarf and hat. The color is Rose Grey (yes it's really a brown though). I can't believe how squishy soft this yarn is, I am kinda envious, I should have ordered another skien of this for me, maybe next time. 549 yards of lovely softness to knit up, yea!

And the prettiest yarn that I was wicked excited to get, Creatively Dyed Calypso in Kiss Sheri.

I am going to make some long gloves out of this yarn, the pictures just don't do the yarn justice at all. As soon as I saw it I had to order an extra skein to make some sock out of as well. These may be my zombie victim gloves, pretty shades of pink with various shades of reds, and browns (dried blood brown color). I know that might be kinda on the ick side for some... oh well :P

There is another shade of the Calypso available at the Loopy Ewe called Hunt... it has more red and brown splotches in it... I would have named the yarn slaughter lol... I am so tempted to get two skeins of it as well, maybe next order.

Well, that's it for yarny goodness this week. I am so hoping the snow isn't going to be too nasty next week. I can't believe I am already sick of snow and it's not even February yet! Might as well make lemonade and make some snow angels lol.

Okay I laughed so hard at this that I nearly fell off my chair so I had to share:

brrrrrr....

Okay someone turn on the global warming, just kidding, but I am seriously thinking of moving a little further south one of these days... oh to live in Brazil again (wanders off into la la land)...
~~~
Other than the bitter chill up in lovely Connecticut, the week so far has be pretty spiffy.  Scale this week says I lost 7 .lbs!  Been tracking what I eat and how much I exercise on Sparkpeople. I feel pretty awesome, I am really enjoying the kickboxing glad I found something fun I can stick with.  So far my college classes are interesting, but honestly I am pretty relieved that it's my last semester (wheeee!)  I have too many things I want to do right now and school just takes up too much of my time, yeah it will be worth it in the long run and stuff but I wish I could just slam down on a fast-forward button.  Poor Wolf (the husband type thing) kinda wants more attention as well, I think he got too used to me being around over the break.
~~~
I thought I would share some pics of the fuzzy kids, Wolf and I don't have skin kids yet, honestly we are still debating on the spawning thing... so for now we adopt critters instead (at lease they won't steal the car).

Here is Ciara (pronounced Key-ra... it's an Irish Gaelic therefore pronounced nothing like it's spelt lol).  Ciara is a 2 year old greyhound we adopted from WAG (We Adopt Greyhounds) in CT.  My father used to raise greyhounds and I have always wanted to get one when we moved into a house.  So we got the house, and then needed the dog.  She is a sweet dog, couldn't ask for a better pup.

Miles is our 16 year old curmudgeon cat.  If he isn't sleeping in your lap he is being cantankerous in some manner.  His job is to diligently manage to get white fur on everything.

These are the girls, the grey is Nymeria the black is Min.  You would think these girls are sisters, they are always playing and sleeping together.  They are bother wonderful balls of mischief, and we are so happy we rescued them both as kittens.  I have some insanely cute pics I will post eventually of these two.

And now for a little bit of yarn porn:

I ordered a skein of superwash merino sock yarn from Rainy Days & Wooly Dogs from etsy.  Their line of Gothsocks are amazing, they are 440 yards of self-striping heaven.  This wool is soft, squishy, and has the most amazing color!  I am so making socks out of these for next October (squeee!)

I have tons more goodies coming in the mail soon, will definitely post it here and on ravelry, and I will have to chat about the books I am currently reading as well.  Till then :)

Beginnings

Heya all, I thought I would have a little fun with blogging about a few of my favorite things, knitting, books, and whatever else pops into my head.  I am getting back into knitting after taking a break from it for almost a year.  My first attempt at lace knitting really discouraged me and I just put down the needles, until I realized how much I missed it and how much of a calming effect knitting had in my life... well not including my lace mishap.  Though I am not that skilled at knitting I wanted to document my progress, I am determined to advancing my knitting skill darnit!

I am working on a basic sock right now out of some Lisa Souza in Berry Poppins I had kicking around.  A nice warm looking Scrunchable Scarf out of Malabrigo (yum!), its a lovely pattern by Susan McConne, but very easy to work on while watching a movie.

I am also finishing up my cozy.  I am determined to finish this pattern, unfortunately I have quiet a few mistakes in this shawl but I am just going to move on and keep on working.  I am also using Malabrigo for this one too - yeah I am a Malabrigo junkie lol.  I really need to get more stitch markers for this project to keep me from miscounting.

I might as well share my latest knitting related splurge.  Last night I received my very first Woolgirl order!  I was so incredibly impressed with how quickly my order arrived, I ordered on Weds. the 21st and I got my order on the 24th!  Not only did my order get here quickly, it was packaged beautifully as well, and I got lovely useful goodies, a pretty teal pen and a cute sheep notepad.  I wish I had taken pictures of the packaging but I was very eager to open it because of this:

My Namaste Malibu bag in Olive!!!  I was a bit giddy when I took this gorgeous bag out.  I needed a nice big bag to carry my knitting, notebooks, a textbook, along with all the other little things I need to have with me throughout the day.  It's a very roomy bag indeed, I adore the magnetic closure, and also the fact that it wasn't made out of a critter.  I am trying to be more animal and environmentally conscious and all that jazz.

I also ordered some very yummy sock yarn.  I got one skein of Sereknity Sock Options Classica merino in the Cowgirl colorway.  It's very pretty, I love nearly any combination with pink and brown so this one just called my name.  I seems like this yarn will make a very nice pair of sturdy stocks, though not especially soft it is not scratchy at all.  Now I have to decide what sock pattern I want to make with it.

The other skein of sock yarn I ordered was really a gem.  This one is Neighborhood Fiber Co.'s Studio Sock in the Adams Morgan colorway.  Okay the color is just stunning but the feel of this yarn is to-die-for!  It is so super soft and squooshy, I think I might have to turn these into some long gloves instead of using them for socks... oh so pretty *faints*

So I am a happy camper this weekend.  And I have a few more orders on their way from assorted places.  I really need to increase my stash, it's been neglected and wants to be fed lol.  Thanks for reading, I need to get back to this Cozy project :D
